Creating a Search Engine Optimizer Tool (Article#00014)

Turning a website into a profitable tool and not just a visit card for your company is among one of the most daunting challenges facing today's web designers and developers.

Whilst considering the challenges in getting targeted traffic for e-commerce websites, we at Firstpixel.com found a solution to place your site on the top 10 Search Engine Results Page (SERPs) of the major search engines. Search engines are the most important way to generate new fresh traffic and after researching the major search engines we found guidelines to help them find, index, and rank your site higher.

Following these guidelines and implementations, we developed the Wise Optimizer (www.wiseoptimizer.com), a tool capable of analysing your website and creating a graphically translated and a text-based report, tips and advice. This in turn allows web-designers and website owners to create specially formatted pages able to inform and direct search engine robots, featuring top 10 comparative analyses, a link popularity check, keyword density analysis, keyword suggestion tool and a html validator. By following all the guidelines, your website can rank higher on major search engines.

Whilst developing the Wise Optimiser, we encountered difficulties. The biggest being that sheer amount of analysis required, for example analysing 44 pages with 10,000 to 100,000 bytes each with 10 to 20 different tags made the process very intensive. Flash was simply not able to deal with all the analysis by itself. The solution was using MDM Zinc 2.5 making Flash ‘talk’ to the Windows API.

Without MDM Zinc this process would not have been possible. Zinc also helped to integrate a number of web based tools to Wise Optimizer SEO tools including the one below.

The following simple tutorial will show you how to call a Zinc function mdm.Browser() to build the browser calling the URL we typed on the first frame input textfield.

STEP 1:
Place in the textfield on first frame:

This is going to be the input field for the web page to be analyzed.

STEP 2:

Code for first frame:

Create a Movieclip with a textfield inside instance named "_title" and place this code on it:

This button onRelease action will send us to the second frame of our application.

STEP 4:

On second frame of your flash document place this code pointing for your web based tool or website:

You can now save your file and press Control + Enter to generate a swf file. The first thing that you need to do is open Zinc and create a new file. In the input file tab, in the Input Source choose our swf file generated (wiseoptimizer.swf)

The final step is creating your executable file by clicking on the Build button and testing your file. You have now created a web based Flash link analysis tool using Zinc MDM.
